Loftus C Clifford was born in Wexford, Ireland about 1814. In 1850 he lived in St. Bartholomew, Colleton, South Carolina with his South Carolina wife and children and his Irish-born aunt Frances 1768-1854. Following the death of Frances Clifford, Loftus C Clifford became the chief beneficiary in the 1839 will of his uncle, Henry Clfford 1774-1841. In 1850, Loftus C Cliford enslaved 139 people.
