Irish slaveholders by South Carolina Counties and Districts.
Please note that county/district boundaries changed over time. New counties were created. Therefore, you may find records of Irish slaveholders and the people they enslaved, in different counties than those identified here. In some cases, Irish slaveholders owned farms and plantations in more than one county or they had a city residence and a country residence.
To give a sense of perspective, Ireland and South Carolina are almost equal in size.
Prior to the U.S. Federal Census 1850, place of birth was not identified in the Census. It is challenging to identify the Irish-born slaveholders in the period 1670-1850. This database will expand as we uncover more records.
